The decision to announce a competition for the appointment of two judges of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina was made at today’s session by the working group for conducting that competition, formed last month at the session of the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament.
Today’s meeting of the group was constitutive, and the president Mladen Bošković told the journalists that, in addition to the decision on the announcement, this temporary body should also conduct a competition, i.e. conduct interviews and rank future candidates.
Bošković is convinced, he said, that four new judges of the state Constitutional Court will be elected in the current mandate of the House of Representatives, which, according to him, is unusually important “if we know the situation we are in and the situation in which the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina functions when there have been no judges from Republika Srpska for a long time”.
The competition whose announcement was made today will be published in two newspapers in the Federation and in the official newspapers of both entities and will last 15 days from the day of the last publication either in the press or in the official newspapers. According to Bošković, seven days are provided for the materials that arrive by mail.
The idea is for the Working Group to complete its entire work in April, in May at the latest, while the House of Representatives will have the final word on the appointment of judges.
The working group chaired by Bošković was formed on January 20 at the session of that House and its task is to carry out the selection process of two judges who are to replace the members of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Valerija Galić and Mirsad Ćeman, due to their retirement.
Apart from Bošković (HDZ), members of the Working Group are Senad Subašić (SDP), Irfan Durić (NES and PDA), all representatives in the House of Representatives, as well as representatives of the judiciary Mustafa Šabić and Joko Radić.
According to the rules, the House of Representatives appoints the members of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina according to the numerical personnel quota from the Federation.
