At the initiative of the Council of the Congress of Bosniak Intellectuals (VKBI), the Croatian National Council (HNV), the Serbian Civic Council (SGV) and the Forum of BiH Parliamentarians, a Declaration on BiH’s constitutional and other reforms on the road to the European Union and NATO was signed in Sarajevo today.
The declaration was initialed by almost 30 representatives of political organizations, civil society organizations, appellants before the European Court of Human Rights and representatives of the academic community.
The text of the Declaration is the product of several months of talks between delegations from the HNV, SGV, VKBI and the Forum of BiH Parliamentarians in 1990, aimed at working together as a social movement by offering adequate solutions based on international judgments.
The Declaration is a product of support for the Principles for Amendments to the Constitution of BiH given by the signatories of the Declaration as 62,000 citizens of BiH through the application http://www.izmjeneustava.com.
One of the goals of the Declaration is the accelerated accession of BiH to the EU, which was supported by former High Representatives for BiH, especially Christian Schwarz-Schilling.
It was emphasized at the meeting that the crisis situation in the world caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation on Ukraine opened space for necessary and urgent action of BiH institutions and representatives of the international community in BiH, EU and USA, in the context of Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The moderator of the gathering and the president of the Forum of BiH Parliamentarians in 1990, Miro Lazovic, said that it was “perhaps the most important gathering organized in the last 15 years in BiH.
”In the past few months, four non-governmental organizations VKBI, HNV, SGV and the Forum of BiH Parliamentarians have promoted the principles for amending the BiH Constitution, which was supported by more than 62,000 BiH citizens. We held dozens of forums in BiH, met with all the most important representatives of international organizations in BiH, the OHR, EU ambassadors, as well as with all MEPs who visited BiH,” said Lazovic.
He stated that after the initialing of the declaration, this kind of social movement will move to a new phase of gathering in which they bring the support of 62,000 BiH citizens.
