Direct flights to Belgrade start from Mostar in April, and the air connection between Mostar and the capital of Serbia is guaranteed by the contract that was signed today in the Mostar City Hall with an appropriate ceremony.
The contract was signed by the leaders of the City of Mostar, Air Serbia and Mostar Airport, announcing a new era of air traffic for Herzegovina.
The director of Mostar Airport, Marko Đuzel, says that by signing this contract, the whole story of Munich, Zagreb, Rome and Belgrade is complete.
“When we say that hardly any airport can boast of that, it is not pretentious, because these four hubs mean a lot. Belgrade has 80 destinations to Western Europe and America, and that transit segment means a lot to our passengers,” said Đuzel.
He emphasized that Mostar now has six agreed direct destinations, which is a record, because Mostar’s airport has never had more than three regular flights.
Air Serbia Commercial and Strategy Director Boško Rupić emphasized that flights to Mostar will depart on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays.
“The flights are set in the middle of the day, which enables a good connection with destinations throughout Europe, from the west to the southeast. For us, this is a continuation of the expansion of traffic in the region, and Mostar is the 17th destination in the area of the former Yugoslavia to which we fly. We expect that here there will be a lot of passengers on the direct line, but also those who travel further via Belgrade,” Rupić said.
He emphasized that the tickets have been available for sale since the morning, and the price of them one way is 56 euros, while for the return ticket, 104 euros should be allocated.
The mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, said that this is a great success for the Mostar airport, which tried to revive itself after three years of work, and is now connected to the whole world.
“This is the fourth hub that we announced, although the ambitions at the beginning of the project were much more modest. Three years ago, we were thinking about how to return the airport to the place where it should be, to be a generator of the development of Mostar and Herzegovina, and then the ambitions were much smaller. Today I can say with pleasure that we have achieved the expected result. Three years of work and effort, from the Airport Authority, through the City Administration, councilors, higher levels of government, resulted in the fact that we have four strong and important hubs, Rome, Belgrade, Zagreb and Munich, which means that we are connected to the whole world. That is an uncountable number of cities in the whole world with which Mostar will be connected from April,” said Kordić.
Andrijana Katic, Minister of Transport and Communications in the FBiH Government, said that this is a very important story for Mostar and Herzegovina, but also for the entire Federation of BiH.
“I am glad that we participated in the realization of this project, by securing one million and 300 thousand BAM for subsidies for flights in 2023. We will not stop there, in 2024 we have foreseen funds for the improvement of air traffic in the amount of seven million BAM,” said Minister Katic.
Let’s remind you that a few days ago, a contract was signed between Mostar Airport, the City of Mostar and the airline SkyAlps, which will operate direct flights to Munich, Rome, Verona and Bari during the summer flight schedule twice a week, starting at the end of April.
It is expected that with the new air lines, the Mostar airport will finally experience a boom and achieve around 50 thousand passengers, which would be more than double than last year when 20 thousand passengers were recorded, Klix.ba writes.
