The Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk, paid tribute and laid flowers on the memorial plaque to the fighters of the National Liberation Movement at the Visegrad Gate, as part of the event on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the entry of the first partisan units in the action to liberate Sarajevo.
Prime Minister Uk said that April 5, 1945 was a historic day both for Sarajevo and for the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because it marked the beginning of the definitive liberation and defeat of the fascist troops.
“Such dates must be a reminder to us that, although defeated, the fascist idea of the enemy continued to smolder in different forms and occasions. When it is given space, that smolder turns into a fire that shows the most terrible side of fascism, which we in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina could feel on our own skin, and which others around the world feel today. Because of everything we have been through, but also because of what we are witnessing today in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region, Europe and the world, anti-fascism remains the only correct path and the only true protection. Unfortunately, in the past decades, attempts have been made to add different labels to anti-fascism, to degrade it and reduce it to a specific period or ideological framework. But anti-fascism is universal – it is a civilizational value that proclaims freedom, democracy, human rights, solidarity and the fight against primitivism,” said Uk, thanking all members of SABNOR, as well as guests from the region, for carrying the idea of anti-fascism.
He said that it is our duty not to remain silent, not to forget and not to allow history to repeat itself.
“It is our duty to convey the truth to the young generations, to teach them freedom, solidarity and responsibility. Because anti-fascism is not only the past – it is our present and our future,” said Uk to those gathered near Bijela Tabija, dedicated to the time and people who liberated Sarajevo, the CS Protocol and Press Service announced.
