[wzslider autoplay=”true”]Settlements on the territory of the present-day town of Bihac have existed since the Palaeolithic, and the toponym Bihac was mentioned for the first time by Hungarian king Bela IV in a charter. It was in 1260.

Strategically very important, this city experienced a real renaissance during the Middle Ages, and especially after the arrival of Ottomans. They considered it as the “key of Bosnia“, and it was the most important fortress of the entire Bosnian pashaluk.

The position and importance of Bihac didn’t get weaker by the arrival of the Astro-Hungarian rule in 1878. The town got a hydro power plant, sewage and water supply as well as the modern, concrete bridge.

Today, Bihac is one of the biggest cities in B&H. Located in the far northwest of the country. It is still the important regional centre and an administrative centre of the Una Sana Canton.

Many will say that this city is one of the most beautiful in our country, so enjoy this gallery of postcards from the city, that date from the end of 19th and beginning of 20th century.
