Bosnia and Herzegovina’s cooperation with the United States of America is increasingly moving beyond political boundaries and taking on a concrete form, this time in the field of medicine. A delegation of doctors from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina is visiting the United States of America with the aim of establishing partnerships with leading healthcare institutions.
The delegation includes representatives of the largest medical institutions, and is headed by the Director of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Alen Pilav, who emphasizes that this is an important step forward for the medical community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Now cooperation has also begun in the civilian segment of life, so we are expanding and working in the field of medicine as well. I am here on behalf of the KCUS, but all representatives of clinical centers from Bosnia and Herzegovina are here, as one strong delegation representing the medical science of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We hope, and what we have already done, is to establish a partnership with top hospitals in the United States of America,” said Dr. Pilav.
Focus on medical development
The focus is not only on the exchange of experiences, but also on concrete improvements to the healthcare system.
“The goal of this visit is to develop cooperation in the fields of health, science and education and implement the most important world achievements in the system of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said the head of the Clinic for Oncology and Radiotherapy of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Šefika Umihanić.
The Deputy Director of the University Clinical Hospital Mostar, Prof. Dr. Kristina Galić, emphasized the importance of technological progress.
“Our goal is to establish cooperation with the hospital in Maryland and improve our biomedical technology, that is, to introduce innovative medical technologies,” said Galić.
Progress for patients
This cooperation means faster access to modern therapies, but also additional education of domestic experts. And it is precisely such steps that make a difference in the long run for patients in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
