To match interview BOSNIA-SERBS/Decision on the referendum on the Day of Republika Srpska will be published in the Official Gazette of the RS and will thus become effective. The referendum will be held on September 25, when it was announced, the entity President Milorad Dodik stated.

Dodik emphasized that there are no more constitutional and legal obstacles for implementation of the referendum and that this decision by the Council for protection of the vital national interest reached by the Constitutional Court of RS is just a confirmation that the decision on referendum and the decision on the publishing of population census results in the RS cannot be disputed because they do not endanger anyone.

“Today is the day when we launch official preparations for the referendum, although my cabinet has previously implemented a series of measures in order to move towards this goal,” Dodik stated.

Council for protection of the vital national interest in the Constitutional Court of BiH yesterday determined that the Decision by the National Assembly of RS on the implementation of a referendum on January 9 as the Day of RS does not violate the vital national interest of the Bosniak nation.

The Council determined that allegations regarding legal effects of the Decision by the Constitutional Court of BiH cannot be a subject of consideration by this Council, which can assess only if the proposed solution in the Decision for which the launching of procedure is requested violates the vital national interest.

The Council assessed that the disputed Decision on the referendum equally treats all nations and citizens and that as such it cannot violate the vital national interest or lead to discrimination in exercising any of the rights guaranteed in the Constitution. According to the Council, the disputed Decision does not have a national presage, but it equally treats all citizens regardless of their national affiliation and all citizens freely exercise their right to participate in the referendum.
