BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik said that the initiative to create a national identification card should unite Serbs, no matter where they live, and that he would discuss it with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.

“This is the result of a conversation I had with many of our people across Europe. This is something that was supposed to bring us together again, to unite us in some way,” explained Dodik and added that the card is intended for all Serbs who have accepted the citizenship of another country.

According to him, this national card is intended for Serbs who identify with Serbia, the RS, and the Serbian people.

“It is about the fact that many of our people, when they go to Austria, for example, take its citizenship, but they do not stop being Serbs. Over time, in a way, they did not assimilate enough, but they did not lose our identity, which is strongly strengthening,” said the member of the Presidency.

Dodik said that when Serbs with foreign citizenship want to buy property or open a company in the RS, they have the same status as any other foreigner, and added that a national identification card would allow them to be treated like the resident population.

“The idea of the national identification card is to give such people who identify with Serbia, the RS, with the Serbian people and their values, that with such a card, when they come to the RS or Serbia, they have the status of a local person,” he told TV Pink.

He added that such a card should be given to all Serbs abroad who want it, as well as to their spouses and children.
