Duffy: USAID invested over $40 Million in Floods Recovery

USAID Floods Recovery novovrijeme.baHead of USAID mission in B&H Peter Duffy and representative of Catholic Relief Services BiH (CRS) Marc D’silva visited yesterday the Municipality of Domaljevac-Šamac where the project “Economic strengthening of communities through reconstruction of infrastructure” (CESTA” was implemented. The project was financed by the USAID and the Government of the Posavina Canton and implemented by the CRS.

Peter Duffy said that several minor and one major project were implemented within the CESTA project in Domaljevac. The major project refers to the reconstruction of the Sava campestral embankment in Bazik, thus protecting more than 1,200 hectares of good-quality agricultural area.

Furthermore, Duffy added that USAID invested over $40 million in the floods recovery in B&H and that exceptionally good cooperation with local communities and the population was established.

Mayor of the Domaljevac-Šamac Municipality Mario Jurkić said that approximately 670,000 BAM were invested in the CESTA project and that, besides of the reconstruction of the mound in Bazik, several drainage canals in Brvnik, Bazik and Grebnice that were swamped in 2014 floods have been cleaned as well.

Moreover, Jurkić said that 71 families received aid for the recovery of agricultural production immediately after the floods.

CESTA is the USAID’s project launched June 2014 and worth 5.72 million dollars. The aim of the project is to help the population affected by floods in Maglaj, Doboj, Doboj Jug, Šamac and Domaljevac-Šamac.
