Ecocide in BiH: The Authorities neglected the Rivers for 305 Million BAM

Institutions in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) have neglected nature while industrial polluters continue to operate.

Namely, in the period from 2016 to 2021, the institutions in the FBiH managed to neglect the rivers and other natural wealth located in the water area of the Sava River, which covers an area of 17.315 square kilometers, for an incredible 305.678.068 BAM!

Moreover, according to valid laws and other regulations, they were obliged to invest these funds in the said period for the sake of nature conservation.

But, according to the auditor’s findings, they did not do that. Namely, the watercourses of Bosna, Vrbas, Una, Sana, Spreca, Usora, and Lasva are located in the mentioned water area.

Water management plans made in this way, in which it is already indicated that a large number of funds are missing for their implementation, as stated by the auditors, were adopted by the FBiH Government?!

Furthermore, the Law on Water prescribes the establishment of an Advisory Council for considering systemic issues of water management and proposing measures for the development and improvement of water management.

Advisory councils in previous years, the auditors point out, did not propose measures to improve water protection financing mechanisms.

According to the findings of the audit, this Council has not met since 2017, nor has the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry proposed the establishment of a new Council after the end of its mandate at the end of 2021, Akta reports.
