On the occasion of World Environment Day, the citizens of Odzak, activists and representatives of the local administration organized an environmental action in this town yesterday. City intersections have been arranged, and decorative flowers have been planted.

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5th, on the anniversary of the United Nations (UN) conference in Stockholm in 1972, dedicated to the environment, where the UNEnvironment Program (UNEP) was adopted.

By celebrating Environment Day around the world, the UNEnvironment Program seeks to highlight major environmental problems and enable everyone to understand their own role and responsibility in thinking and acting with the aim of sustainable development of the environment in which we live.

On this occasion, in Odzak, the action was taken to plant ornamental plants and arrange the newly built intersections in the city center. With the joint activities of the local Association for the Protection of Nature and the Environment, the Municipality of Odzak, the Ministry of Transport and the utility company, and with the help of the ecological organization Eko Zivot from Tuzla, two traffic intersections in the very center of the city were arranged.

“World Environment Day is an opportunity to point out the importance of preserving the environment and at the same time to use the opportunity to beautify the streets of the city of Odzak,” emphasized Zlatko Mujkanovic, president of the Odzak municipal council, and Iva Bilusic, president of the association.

Namely, Odzak can boast of good progress in solving environmental problems, primarily because the city landfill was closed and rehabilitated in the past period, and they take the municipal waste to the regional landfill near Doboj, as the first in this area, Klix.ba reports.
