Nothing has been discussed at the moment in terms of more concrete solutions and details when it comes to changes to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said Angelina Eichhorst, director at the European External Action Service, after the start of a new round of political negotiations on changes to BiH election legislation.

“In the next three to four days, we will have talks with all political actors who are interested and involved in the processes. We want fair and transparent elections to be ensured in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Currently, unfortunately, in BiH we have a situation that is such that we are talking about “We want these meetings and talks to inspire hope in citizens inside and outside Bosnia and Herzegovina who want to help come up with quality solutions,” Eichhrost said.

She pointed out that today in the morning they had initial meetings with representatives of the Central Election Commission of BiH and representatives of the non-governmental sector from the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections “Under the Magnifying Glass” and Transperency International BiH.

“We will talk below with a number of actors, a number of interlocutors. We want Bosnia and Herzegovina to have elections in October next year in a way that is fair, transparent and functional with the full participation of all relevant institutions. Time is running out and to ensure credible changes in for the purpose of the discussion, we must keep in mind that element of time, “Eichhorst pointed out.

U.S. Special Envoy for Electoral Reform Matthew Palmer noted that a new round of talks has begun.

“We are not here to advocate any plan, but to help political parties reach an agreement on electoral reform and partial constitutional reform in order to implement the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and the BiH Constitutional Court,” Palmer said.

This morning, the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Johann Sattler, US Ambassador Eric Nelson and High Representative Christian Schmidt met with Matthew Palmer and Angelina Eichhorst at the headquarters of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH.
