Eichorst and Palmer about the Election Law: We are working on an integration Package

Negotiations on changes to the electoral legislation that will guide the political future of Bosnia and Herzegovina began this morning at 8 am in Neum. According to the European and American mediators at the first press conference, the integration package is being worked on. They pointed out that they hope for a constructive continuation of the talks, as well as that everyone is aware of the urgency of reaching an agreement on changes to the BiH Election Law.

Angelina Eichorst, the European mediator in the negotiations on the amendments to the Election Law, points out that all parties are committed to this process.

“Most parties are here, both ruling and opposition. It is good to hear more different views. We have been working on the integration package since this morning, there are 70 pages, these changes are very important and we feel that all parties are committed. We are glad to be here and hope for a constructive continuation of the talks, “Eichorst said.

The American representative Matthew Palmer pointed out that the atmosphere was positive and that talks with the members of the Interdepartmental Working Group would follow tomorrow. He expressed expectations that the parties from RS will be there tomorrow.

“It is a pleasure to be here in Neum, this is an opportunity for the parties to make changes together to strengthen democracy in BiH. So far, the parties have approached the talks in a positive manner. The integrity package is very demanding in technical terms. and experts helping to resolve some difficult issues. Everyone is very serious about these talks to honor the agreement that could be presented in parliament and get a majority. There are also representatives of the ODIHR and the Venice Office.Whatever is agreed is important to be in line with their recommendations and standards. There is a lot of work but we have started well, “Palmer said.

Eichorst also pointed out that the representatives of the parties are aware of the urgency required by the amendments to the BiH Election Law.

If we look at last year and now, when Mr. Palmer and I were, we see not only that he has the will and readiness for different views, but that there is a real sense of urgency. that we need a solution. Cautious optimism exists, “she said.
