Sarajevo this morning has the most polluted air in the world when comparing the situation in the world’s major cities, according to IQAir.
The Bosnian capital had a pollution index of 197 at 9 a.m., which was assessed as unhealthy.
The second most polluted city is shared by Saudi Riyadh and the Croatian capital Zagreb with a pollution index of 181.
Belgrade is the next most polluted city with a pollution index of 172, while Kolkata, India has an index of 169.
Swiss IQAir has more than 10,000 measuring stations and displays air quality worldwide.
During the winter season in Sarajevo and some cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the permitted concentration of suspended particles is often exceeded. An episode of “Warning” was announced in all zones of Sarajevo Canton on Thursday, given the forecasted weather situation and the high measured values of air pollutants.
