The Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ANUBiH) and the Public Institution Fund of the Sarajevo Canton Memorial with the scientific conference “Statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 20th and 21st centuries: historical challenges and achievements in the development of the statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina” mark the 80th anniversary of the First Session of ZAVNOBiH and of the second session of AVNOj.

In the past 72 years of existence and work, ANUBiH had a continuous scientific research approach in relation to the importance of the First Session of ZAVNOBiH for the development of the statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the conference, more than 30 researchers and scientific colleagues will present their opinions and scientific works, who will try to provide answers and solutions to certain questions related to the statehood of our country.

“The Academy wants to show that the idea of ZAVNOBiH has not been destroyed and should be continuously observed as the most important gift of the partisans to all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Professor Nerzuk Ćurak.

He believes that Bosnia and Herzegovina is in a difficult geopolitical situation due to the penetration of hard conservative, rigid, chauvinist ideologies that are always against multi-ethnic societies, and that the situation in the world from the population of BiH is not good.

“We know that we have a wounded state and we have to find ways for consensus and building BiH within the reduced space for maneuver. We need to end the policies of hostility and build our country,” pointed out Ćurak.

ANUBiH President Muris Čičić believes that every event that leads to the resolution of a crisis in BiH is important, especially when it comes to strengthening the elements of the statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As he said, BiH has gone through turbulent times and today’s situation can be called a crisis.

Čičić notes that today’s concept of BiH statehood is exclusively linked to the European Union and NATO, and he is convinced that today’s scientific meeting will result in good proposals and solutions that can contribute to the improvement of BiH statehood.

Professor Mirko Pejanović underlined that Bosnia and Herzegovina was lucky to build and develop in peace after four years of war, and to receive a geopolitical framework called the Dayton Peace Agreement. Also, international peacekeeping forces ensured that the project of integration of the state of BiH into the European Union and NATO was developed, which, according to him, will ultimately bring BiH the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement as a whole.

The Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH Denis Zvizdić points out that the thousand-year history and continuity of BiH speaks volumes about the statehood of this country, while the “intermediaries of our statehood” are the first session of ZAVNOBiH with the Charter of Kulina Ban, as well as a strong feudal state during the time of King Tvrtko. referendum on independence and international recognition of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a sovereign state.

“The people of Bosnia and Herzegovina want to live in the sovereign state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We should not forget that there are almost 6,000 nations in the world, but only 193 states, which speaks of the strength of Bosnia and Herzegovina. people and their state-building commitment. At this time, we need a strong political leadership that will position Bosnia and Herzegovina in accordance with our state-building interests,” said Zvizdić.

The conference was also attended by the high representative of the international community in BiH, Christian Schmidt, who pointed out that it is necessary to give certain advice for the European future of BiH, and to discuss the way to transform the concepts of brotherhood and unity and federalization, which once existed in BiH, into a system of individual democracy.

“We must do it together and regardless of Milorad Dodik’s certain statements, we must sit down and think about how we can achieve a better BiH within the European Union and the full implementation of the Dayton Agreement,” the high representative assessed, Fena reports.
