Turkey has arrested 11 people in connection with a fire that killed 76 people and injured dozens more at a ski resort in the Bolu mountains, Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said.

Those detained include the deputy governor of the northwestern province of Bolu, the head of the municipal fire department, and the owner and manager of the hotel, Tunc said on the X network.

Some of the victims of yesterday’s fire have been buried, including many children.

The bodies of 45 victims have been handed over to their families, and forensic DNA tests are underway to identify the others, the government said.

The fire broke out at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort, where 238 registered guests were staying. The 12-story building was engulfed in flames after a fire broke out in a ground-floor restaurant at around 3:30 a.m. The fire forced panicked hotel guests to jump from windows in the middle of the night.
