Empty desk and a chair as a symbol of early terminated adolescence of one elementary school pupil were placed yesterday at the plateau in front of the headquarters of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the peace walk of the citizens of Sarajevo for Mahir Rakovac.
After gathering at the Square of the children of Sarajevo, where the attendees were addressed by Mahir’s stepfather, walking peacefully several thousands of citizens arrived in front of the building where the most important political decisions on the state level are reached. Precisely at this place, speeches were held about the need for urgent prevention of peer violence which takes away young lives and brings traumas to numerous individuals and families.
At the desk which was placed at the Square of Bosnia and Herzegovina white roses were left, together with a banner stating “Justice for Mahir”. In the end, a part of Mozart’s requiem “Lacrimosa” was played.
Yesterday was exactly 40 days since the fourteen-year-old Mahir tragically terminated his life. According to his mother and stepfather, he was a victim of peer violence.
While the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor’s Office are investigating this case, numerous citizens raised their voices yesterday – that Mahir Rakovac, Harun Mujkić, Denis Mrnjavac and other victims of peer violence never happen to anyone, anywhere, again.
