Anne -Marie Esper Larsen is the new representative of the United Nations Agency for gender equality and for women empowerment in B&H – UN Women in B&H, which conducts activities to improve the position of women.
Over the past two weeks, since her appointment, the new UN Women Representative in B&H is focused on the area of peace and security, in the Security Council Resolution UN 1325 and in the elimination of violence against women.
“Besides, in the future we should focus on the economic empowerment of women. In doing so, the UN organization depends on the funds that are available. B&H is no longer a country with low income, so it will be a real challenge to provide funds for financing activities. That is why, for the United Nations agency for gender equality and empowerment of women in B&H is important that in the future to build capacities of local actors, that they take over activities related to strengthening the position of women in B&H.
B&H as a signatory of the UN Resolution 1325 has the obligation to implement it. In this regard, this week, the representatives of the Coordination Committee for monitoring of the Action Plan for the implementation of the UN Resolution 1325 in B&H for 2014-2017 and 13 non-governmental organizations in Sarajevo signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
