EU Condemns Violent Attack in Mostar

sorensenThe violent attack yesterday on Slavo Kukic, Professor of Sociology at the Economics Faculty in Mostar, was condemned in the strongest possible terms yesterday by the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Peter Sorensen. Professor Kukic was severely beaten with a baseball bat in his office at the University of Mostar. He is currently in hospital.

Ambassador Sorensen said:

“Such violence and intolerance is utterly unacceptable. The authorities must conduct a thorough and swift investigation, identify those responsible and bring them to justice swiftly. Such violent and senseless attacks must not go unpunished.

“Any attempt to instil fear or incite violence, hatred or discrimination against individuals or groups based on their political affiliation cannot have any place in BiH society today.

“I sincerely hope that the authorities will do everything possible to prevent such harassment and violence from repeating and becoming part of the political life of Mostar,” Ambassador Sorensen concluded.
