Last night in Sarajevo, the first meeting of lovers of European literature was held in the premises of Europe House. With the aim of promoting the culture of reading, Europe House and Sarajevo Library launched “Booked” – a literary club dedicated to creating a culture of gathering in the new space of Europe House, in the Eternal Flame building in the heart of Sarajevo.

The guest of the first literary meeting was Damir Ovčina, winner of the Mirko Kovač award for his debut novel “Kad sam bio Hodža“. In addition to talking to the audience about his debut, Ovčina also presented the works of Nobel laureate José Saramago and discussed the importance of contemporary European literature. Kristina Ljevak Bajramović, journalist and cultural worker, held a discussion with Ovčina and other participants of the Literary Club.

Booked gathers every final Tuesday of the month at 18:00 and, with the presence of renowned local authors, invites discussion on the importance of culture and art for the improvement and understanding of complex social issues and the beauty of diversity.

In addition to Ovčina, there will be guest appearances by the winners of the European Prize for Literature, awarded from Creative Europe, European Union’s largest fund for support to culture and creative industries, as well as numerous other prominent BiH authors.

All lovers of the written word are cordially invited to join the gatherings, visit the newly opened Europe House library and support our efforts to forge greater understanding, innovative ideas and new acquaintances.

Art and culture are central to the activities of Europe House, a long term communication project of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Activities throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, exploring the potential of the written word and visual arts, strive to connect cultural workers and promote and respect common cultural and historical heritage.
