The European Parliament, with headquarters in Strasbourg, will discuss today B&H’s progress report, on which it will vote on Thursday.
The session will begin at 15:00, as part of the common discussions on progress reports of Balkan countries. At this session, the European Parliament will discuss Syria, Egypt, the Central African Republic and other topics until 23:00.
The vote, followed by explanations of voting, will be announced on Thursday at a session that is scheduled from 12:00 to 14:00.
According to the draft resolution, which was submitted by member of the European Parliament Doris Pack on behalf of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, deep concern is expressed that the leaders of the three ethnic communities in B&H still do not show a common vision. Political groups at all levels of government are encouraged to strengthen dialogue and cooperation in order to achieve progress towards reform and to improve the lives of B&H citizens, and calls on civil society to be more engaged in reform efforts in B&H.
It calls for abandoning nationalist and ethno-centric rhetoric that serves the leadership of the three constituent peoples in B&H and condemns all kinds of segregation and discrimination on religious or ethnic grounds. Deep concern is expressed that the four-year dispute among political leaders of the Council of Europe originally contemplated to terminate the right of B&H to be represented in this organization if genuine progress has not been made in implementing the judgment at the European Court of Human Rights, and emphasized that the legality of the 2014 election would be brought into question if the judgment is not implemented. Concern was also expressed about the high level of corruption that is present in all levels of public life and the complex relationships of political and business actors, as well as the media.
