Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović and member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić spoke with the Special Adviser of the United Nations (UN) Secretary General for Genocide Prevention Alice Wairimu Nderitu.

At the UN headquarters in New York, they also discussed the presentation of the draft resolution on the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica committed in 1995. Bećirović and Komšić emphasized that the adoption of the resolution in the UN General Assembly will highlight the global importance of genocide prevention.

They also pointed out that the leaders of the Republika Srpska and the highest officials of Serbia should stop denying the final judgments of the UN courts and that they have an obligation to respect international law and the judgments of the UN courts.

The Special Adviser of the UN Secretary General for the Prevention of Genocide, Alice Wairimu Nderitu, said that Srebrenica is a very important place for the whole world, and stressed that it is important to warn about the consequences of hate speech and denial of the genocide in Srebrenica.

She also recalled her address during the commemoration of the 27th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, when she said that any denial of genocide makes reconciliation impossible, which is why it is important to work on criminalizing the glorification of war criminals. Therefore, it strongly encourages the campaign against the denial of genocide, and initiates the establishment of educational programs, which will be based on the principle of “courtroom to classroom”, all with the aim of preventing revisionism and repetition of genocide in the future.

Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović and member of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić pointed out that the resolution, among other things, condemns any denial of the genocide in Srebrenica and calls on the UN member states to preserve the established facts, announced the Cabinet of the Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović, BHRT writes.
