exhibition2The exhibition entitled “The Old Sarajevo čaršija in 1949” will be set up today in the ceremonial hall of the City Hall.

Exhibition consists of interesting and valuable drawings and graphic art of famous B&H artists from the time when they were not so famous, from the Art Collection of the Museum of Sarajevo.

Commission for Culture and the Arts of the City of Sarajevo in 1949 bought a collection of works on the topic “Old Sarajevo čaršija” from the young artists, who were students of the School of Applied Arts in Sarajevo back then.

The same year the collection was donated to the Museum of the City of Sarajevo, and authors: Affan Ramić, Rajko Sikimić, Pero Bodroža, Jusuf Jusa Nikšić, Mustafa Ico Voljevica, Hela Volfard and Budislav Vlaisavljević, later became famous and acknowledged painters, academicians, sculptors, graphic artists, restorers and conservators.

The look of čaršija that we find on graphics from the 1949, represents a sketch of the time and people. The exhibition also represents certain kind of chronicle of an era.

The exhibition is the result of cooperation between the City of Sarajevo and the PI “Museum of Sarajevo”, and will be officially opened by the Mayor of Sarajevo, Ivo Komšić and director of the Museum of Sarajevo, Amra Madžarević.

The exhibition will be opened until the 18th of September, as announced by the City Administration.
