Exports of Food from Bosnia and Herzegovina increased during Pandemic

Exports of food from Bosnia and Herzegovina increased during the pandemic and is one of the few activities that recorded a positive balance during the crisis, reports Indikator.ba.

In the period January-April, BiH exported food and live animals worth 196.5 million BAM, which is 19.4 percent more than in the same period a year earlier, according to the BiH Statistics Agency, Avaz news portal reports.

The biggest growth in the past four months was the export of coffee, tea, cocoa and spices by 44.5 percent to 12.7 million BAM. High growth was recorded by the domestic mill and bakery industry, and the growth of cereals and cereal products had an increase compared to last year of 35.7 percent, and had a total value for four months of 30.9 million BAM.

However, the largest increase was recorded in exports of meat and meat products, as a result of renewed exports of fresh and chilled meat to Turkey.

Exports are almost 2.5 times higher than last year and in four months this year it reached the value of 34.9 million BAM. The largest item in food exports is the export of fruits and vegetables, which had a value of 49.7 million BAM. Compared to the same period last year, a growth of 2.2 percent was registered.

The largest decline in the observed period was recorded in sugar – exports were more than halved, and amounted to only 2.7 million BAM.
