Extensive Research reveals percentage of Unemployment in BiH

unemployementLabor force in BiH, or economically active population makes 1,137,000 people, while the number of inactive is 1,443,000 people, as showed, among other things, by the labor force survey in BiH conducted by the Agency for Statistics in 2015.

Within the labor force were 822,000 employed and 315,000 unemployed persons.

According to the survey, the unemployment rate in 2015 amounted to 27.7 % (25.8 % for men and 30.7 % for women), while in the same period in 2014 it was 27.5 % (31.2 % for men and 25.2 % for women). The unemployment rate was the highest among young people aged 15-24 years and it amounted to 62.3 %.

Educational structure of employed persons showed that 64.6 % of people have completed secondary school, persons with primary or lower education 17.8 %, and persons who have completed academic education amounted to 17.6 %.

On the other hand, the educational structure of unemployed persons showed that 72.1 % of people have completed secondary school, 17.5 % completed primary or lower education, and persons who have completed academic education 10.4 %.

Structure of employed persons by sectors of activity showed that the largest share was in the sector of services with 52.6 %, followed by the industrial sector with 29.5 %, and in the agricultural sector 17.9 %.

In the observed period, 17.7 % of unemployed persons were seeking for the job for less than 12 months, and 81.6 % of unemployed persons were seeking for the job for more than one year, as a result of the post-war situation and the transition of economy in BiH.

As stated from the Agency for Statistics, this survey is the most comprehensive survey of households in BiH and it is aimed to collect data on the situation on the labor market in BiH.
