fbi_logo_twitterAt the US Embassy to BiH in Sarajevo yesterday the FBI recognized the excellent cooperation during the terrorist attack on the US Embassy on 28 October 2011.

The awards were presented to Chief Prosecutor of BiH Goran Salihović, Director of the State Agency for Investigation and Protection (SIPA) Goran Zubac, Judge at BiH Prosecutor Office Dubravko Čampari, Assistant Prosecutors Adna Dobojlić-Ucoglan and Mirsad Crnovrsanin, investigator at Prosecutor Office Mujo Selimović, Acting Head of Department of SIPA Amer Veiz and investigators of FBI and Department of Justice of the US Igor Rajić.

The awards were presented by the US Ambassador to BiH Patrick Moon, who thanked for the successful cooperation of these institutions in the processing and bringing to justice the perpetrators of terrorist attacks, noting that the relationship between the two countries after these events has strengthened.

“It was a pleasure to see the functioning of all BiH institutions and their cooperation with US institutions and immediately after the attack, and today we are here to acknowledge and express our gratitude to the agencies and individuals who gave their contribution during the investigation in prosecuting the offender in this case’’, said Moon.

He said that the bomb attacks at the Boston Marathon this week was a reminder of the constant threat that faces the entire world. Moon added that everyone is at risk of an attack and that it could happen at any place and to everyone, and only through strong internal and international cooperation between countries would they be able to deal and overcome these threats.

The trial chamber of the BiH Court declared Mevlid Jašarević guilty for the attack on the US Embassy in Sarajevo on 28 October 2011, and he was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Jašarević was convicted of a terrorist attack that injured police officer Mirsad Velić and damaged the building of the US Embassy in BiH (Court declared damange to be 100.000 dollars). He said that he committed the attack due to “the poor treatment of the US towards Muslims in the entire world).

It was found that Jašarević came to Sarajevo in front of the US Embassy and had an automatic weapon, ammunition and two hand grenades and at around 15:30 started shooting at the building. He hid the second rifle and two bombs near the building in a visible place, and shot from his rifle for around 50 minutes.
