Finnish Foreign Minister: We see problems in BiH and Montenegro

The ministers of foreign affairs of the European Union (EU)countries held a meeting in Brussels yesterday, where, among other things, they discussed the situation in the Western Balkans.

Ahead of the meeting, the ministers of foreign affairs set aside time for talks with the media, and one of those who reflected on the situation in the Western Balkans was the head of Finnish diplomacy, Pekka Haavisto.

”I believe that geopolitics is crucial in these moments. We see a problem in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), political turbulence in Montenegro. We must remain committed to the Western Balkans, and support North Macedonia and Albania on their way to the EU as soon as possible,” noted Haavisto.

He also explained that one of the topics at yesterday’s meeting was Ukraine and referred to possible negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

”The time of negotiations is something that Ukraine needs to define. They have clear goals when it comes to returning the occupied parts. After that, talks about a truce will be possible,”concluded Haavisto.

In addition to topics related to Russian aggression against Ukraine and the Western Balkans, the heads of diplomacy also discussed the situation in Lebanon, the recent state climate summit COP27, and other issues.
