The municipality of Centar will get the first “green facade” at the corner of Marsala Tita Street and Alije Isakovica Street in September.

An agreement on setting up a “green facade” at one of the residential buildings in the city center was signed. This is a pilot project called “City Lungs”, and it will be financed by the Municipality Center and the UNDP, while the Association for Development and Micro-Projects “Opus” in cooperation with the Department of Physical Planning and Communal Affairs of the Municipality Center, will be in charge for the realization of this project.

In accordance with the signed document, a total of 70,000 BAM will be allocated from the budget of the municipality. Mayor Nedzad Ajnadzic signed the agreement on behalf of the Municipality Center, and he emphasized that this project will be very useful to citizens and that therefore the Municipality Center is planning to continue working with the UNDP as their partner.

“It is no accident that this kind of project started in the municipality of Centar, which wants to provide as many green surfaces for our fellow citizens as possible. In case that citizens positively assess this project, we are planning to increase funds in the municipal budget for this purpose and to realize more of these good projects,” stated Ajnadzic.

Emir Skejovic signed the agreement on behalf of NGO “Opus”, who said that the Municipality of Centar was chosen because it showed the biggest understanding for this kind of project.

“This is the first project of setting eco-facade or “green wall” with a cassette construction in BiH. Vucko, as the mascot of the XIV Winter Olympics that were held in Sarajevo and the symbol of this city, will be placed in the middle of the facade. We will set plants that do not attract insects, and takes carbon dioxide from the air and releases oxygen. Around 80 % of the polluted air can be cleaned in the street itself. The works will be performed by our local company, which has experience in realization of this kind of projects and it is planned for the works on setting the “green facade” to be completed by September 5, this year,” said Skejovic.
