The final phase of activities is taking place in Žepe before the opening of a fish-processing factory “Slap”, writes Dnevni Avaz.

The construction of the facility began in July last year, and the production system adapts to European standards.

“This project will revise the entire production system in order to be easily placed on the EU market. At the same time, we are helping returnees, those who wish to return and those who have already returned to secure employment and to provide for themselves’’, said the owner of “Slap” Muhamed Tabaković.

He explains that from New Year there is a ban on exports of live fish to Croatia, and that currently the company is tied only to the BiH, Serbian and Montenegrin markets. This project enables for the export of processed fish in countries with which negotiations are currently underway.

“Maybe I can be grateful that currently in this region, and beyond, we have a state-of-the-art facility”, adds Tabaković.

For a returnee who has continued the family business from his father, this year at the fishery “Slap” plans to break the record and produce 680 tons of fish. With the currently 16 employees, there will be 11 more in the factory for processing. The worth of the investment in 2012 was around 2.5 million KM. The project is financed by loans from the Turkish government.

A new investment has been announced for this year worth around 750.000 KM for the construction of hatcheries, which would complete the production cycle of “Slap” and the number of employed would be increased to around 40.

The opening of the fish facility is planned for 12 April.
