Flags of BiH were removed from Local Institutions in East Sarajevo

The flags of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been removed from municipal and city institutions in East Sarajevo, and usually another BiH flag has been placed in their place, the one of the entity Republika Srpska.

This is a practice that has appeared before, and is especially intensified with the recent political crisis caused by the secessionist policies of Milorad Dodik’s regime.

This act can also be linked to the celebration of the unconstitutional day of the RS, which the authorities in Banja Luka mark on January 9th.

Republika Srpska Day is marked despite two decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina declaring it unconstitutional, following the opinion of the Venice Commission, which assessed it as “discriminatory, because it is not in line with the universal values of dialogue, tolerance and understanding.”

On that date in 1992, the self-proclaimed Assembly of the Serb People in Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo passed the “Declaration on the Proclamation of the Republic of the Serb People of Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
