The European Parliament (EP) has for the first time called for an “immediate and permanent ceasefire” in Gaza, where Israel continues to attack.

The report for 2023 prepared at the EP General Assembly on “The state of human rights and democracy in the world and the policy of the European Union (EU)” was accepted with 265 votes in favor, 253 against and ten abstentions.

In the 62nd article of the report, there was a “call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza”, to which members of the Left in the EP requested changes.

The revised and approved report states that “the EU, its member states and the international community call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to ensure unhindered access to food and water for all people”.

With this, the European Parliament called for a ceasefire in Gaza for the first time. In the decision made on January 18, the “permanent ceasefire” was conditional on the release of all prisoners and the destruction of Hamas, AA writes.
