The forest fire on Mount Čvrsnica remains active, and firefighters are continuing their arduous battle against the blaze, which is spreading to previously unaffected areas and moving underground.
As reported on Saturday morning by the Civil Protection Operations Center of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC), open flames persist at several locations within the fire zone. Residual tree stumps are currently burning, with the fire spreading from them to new, previously unburnt areas.
Firefighting efforts are further complicated by the specific terrain conditions, as the fire is spreading through underground root systems invisible to the naked eye, creating unpredictable challenges for the firefighters on the ground.
Yesterday, firefighters were actively engaged in battling the Čvrsnica fire from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and their efforts are continuing with the aim of fully containing the fire and preventing it from spreading further.
