Foster Parent from Sarajevo: Fetka’s Hug is Priceless

The story of Adila Bolic-Muharemovic from Sarajevo, who decided to become foster parent when she met girl Fetaneta Avdic, shows that love can overcome all obstacles. She made this decision although she knew that Fetka, as she likes to call her, has Down syndrome.

Adila’s daughter paid special attention to Fetaneta in the institution where she worked, since there was an intention to move this little girl to another center for people with disabilities, and she told that to her mother.

“I was thinking about becoming a foster parent then, but I made the final decision later, when I met Fetka,” said Adila.

She was temporary foster parent at the beginning, but Adila noticed that Fetka always came happy, and went sad after her visits.

“Our farewells were difficult for all of us, and my family and I wanted to make her life easier and help her to get out of the center for children without parental care. These centers are not bad, but there is not enough staff that could fully devote themselves to children with developmental difficulties,” said this foster parent from Sarajevo.

“I want to give her all the attention and love that she needs, and not just me, but my daughters, grandfathers and grandchildren as well, and they always ask me about Fetka. She is a real part of our family now and I will always consider her as my biological child,” concluded Adila.
