Representative in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Sasa Magazinovic, held a press conference where he spoke about who and why is slowing down the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes, which lobbies and whose interests are at stake.
Magazinovic stated that there are four interest groups that stop or slow down the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes.
“The first is the black market, dealers. Their goal is that nothing changes. The second is pharmaceutical companies who know that by legalizing cannabis for medical purposes, they will lose part of their profits. The third is those who are in favor but exclusively for imports, probably ready to be a part those stories. The fourth group is those who are in favor but exclusively in the way that it is produced in BiH, and they are probably ready with their partners for that option,” Magazinovic accused.
Namely, Magazinovic mentioned that the focus on money, that is, profit, is common for these four groups, and that sick people are either not in their focus or it is of secondary importance to them.
“Recently, there have been well-intentioned warnings for me to be careful, that this means millions in someone’s pocket or out of their pocket, which I understand from the very beginning that this is the case,” said Magazinovic about the threats.
In the end, he called on the people in the Commission to think about what they are deciding and that he does not want to insinuate that any of the four interest groups have an influence on decision-making, but he called on the Council of Ministers to respect the position of the profession and listen to the Medicines Agency, which has explained to them how it should be be, Klix.ba writes.
