courtA team of experts that will represent BiH at the International Court of Justice in the case of BiH against Serbia consists of four members, including American David Scheffer, the Dutch Phon van den Biesen, Frenchman Alain Pellet and Italian Paolo Palchetti.

According to the information of “Slobodna Bosna”, the expert team is gathered for more than a year, and during that time they managed to collect all relevant information for the review of the judgment in the lawsuit of BiH against Serbia. The application is already written, it contains about 100 pages of the main text, and they are currently completing technical preparations for sending it to the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

The American lawyer who is a member of the BH expert team is David Scheffer. Scheffer, to recall, once served as the first US ambassador for war crimes issues, and he was appointed to that position due to the war in BiH, during the second presidential term of Bill Clinton.

As the Ambassador, Scheffer participated in the creation of the International Criminal Tribunals for former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, the Special Court for Sierra Leone and the Tribunal for Khmer Rouge regime. As a lecturer on the subjects of international law and war crimes, he worked at Northwestern University, Georgetown, Columbia, Duke and George Washington.

Phon van den Biesen was the representative of BiH at the International Court of Justice in a dispute against Serbia for genocide in the war in BiH from late 1993 to February 2007.

He is currently representing the Marshall Islands in three different cases of nuclear disarmament. Respondents are the United Kingdom, India, and Pakistan.

Alain Pellet was the head of the UN International Law Commission in 1997, and he was its member from 1990 to 2011.

He was the advisor to a number of European governments, including the French, and he also advised a number of other organizations.

He was a consultant and agent in about 50 different cases before the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and a number of other arbitration cases.

Paolo Palchetti is one of the directors of QIL (Questions of International Law) organizations, as well as representative and advisor to numerous governments in matters before the International Court of Justice.
