Members of the Federal Police Administration (FUP) are in the Ministry of Economy of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, where, by order of POSKOK, as confirmed by Nina Hadžihajdarević, spokesperson of that Special Department of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, they are to temporarily seize items that may represent important evidence in the case related to the tragedy in Donja Jablanica.

“The special department of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office issued an order for the temporary confiscation of items from the responsible person of the Mining and Geological Inspection of the Ministry of Economy of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton with the aim of obtaining items that can serve as evidence important for further proceedings in the case related to the tragedy in Donja Jablanica,” said Hadžihajdarević.

She noted that it is not about an investigation, but about the temporary confiscation of items and further activities to gather evidence in connection with the tragedy in Donja Jablanica.

The tragedy in Donja Jablanica happened at the beginning of October 2024, when heavy rainfall caused catastrophic floods and landslides in several parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Donja Jablanica was among the most affected areas, and at least 19 residents of this place lost their lives in the accident, while a total of 26 people died in floods and landslides throughout BiH.

Claims that the quarry above Donja Jablanica contributed to the scale of the disaster caused special public attention, after large amounts of stones and mud ended up in the settlement.

Because of this, the Prosecutor’s Office had earlier formed a case related to the work and activities of the quarry in the affected area, Fena writes.
