Extraordinary parliamentary elections will be held in France today, where citizens will elect 577 deputies for the Lower House of the French Parliament.

According to the latest figures, more than 49 million French people have the right to vote.

A party or coalition must win at least 289 seats to have a majority in parliament.

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, called for extraordinary parliamentary elections due to the poor results of the vote for the European Parliament, in which the National Rally (RN) party of Marine Le Pen did well.

The second round of voting will be held on July 7, and the candidates who won the most votes in the first round will take part in it.

A candidate with more than 12.5 percent of the votes received in the first round of voting automatically goes to the second round.

Two or three candidates usually qualify for the second round.
