Revolution Day, a public holiday celebrated in Egypt to commemorate the military revolution of July 23, 1952, that led to the end of the monarchy and the establishment of a republic, was marked in BiH’s capital on Wednesday evening.
“The revolution established the first republic and changed the face of life, not only in Egypt, but in the entire region, it helped the inspiring contribution to the global movement to end colonialism and solidify the rights of people. Consequently, changing the international map and raising the flags of dependence in most Arab and African countries,” the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to BiH Yasser Sorour said in his introductory speech.
Ambassador added that Egypt has determined to continue effort to implement comprehensive strategies to remain capable to provide a decent life to his citizens, for the current and future generations.
“Egypt has resolved to carry out its effort for the economic such as implementing the economic mega projects stretching across the country as well as taking the concrete steps toward the new republic, a republic of the development, with social, economic, comprehensive system,” Ambassador added.
Also, he pointed out the positive cooperation in the bilateral relations between BiH and Egypt, stressing out that during his mandate, since 2021, the trade has witnessed an increase, for the first time in twelve years, around seven million BAM.
“We are planning to further coordinate the authorities in both countries to examine the means to enhance trade,” he added.
In addition, he highlighted the direct flights between Banja Luka and Sarajevo with Hurgada, the second year in a row, and hopefully, in the future, between Sarajevo and Cairo.
Ambassador added that the priorities are to identify possible areas of cooperation and improve friendly relations between Egypt and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Authorities managed to launch direct flights from Sarajevo and Banja Luka to Hurghada. It was successful two years and Ambassador added that he would like to express his gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism of Egypt and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who, along with the airline “AirCairo”, supported the efforts to realize the dream and goal of starting and maintaing direct flights.
The revolution was carried out by a clandestine group called the Free Officers, led by Gen. Muḥammad Naguib. The group of former army officers had been established by Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1949 to plan a revolution against the government of King Farouk. They successfully overthrew the king in 1952 and installed a more democratic government noted for the institution of major land reforms that sought to recover the lands held by the country’s elite and redistribute them among the poor, the acceleration of industrialization in the country, a somewhat successful campaign against corruption, and the advancement of women’s rights, including the right to vote.
