Revised Free Trade Agreement between BiH and Turkey signed in Ankara

The international public expects our BiH friends to gather as soon as possible around a common consensus and form a government without mutual accusations, and that everyone will focus on reforms, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said after meeting with the Chairman of Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Milorad Dodik and Presidency member Sefik Dzaferovic on Wednesday in Ankara.

“These efforts will accelerate the integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions, for which Turkey provides great support,” Erdogan said.

He added that talks on economic co-operation between BiH and Turkey were being discussed and that the growth of the two countries’ trade exchanges was established.

Dodik thanked Erdogan for finalizing the Trade Exchange Agreement.

“The agreement allows us to encourage the cooperation of the two countries and the economic growth of BiH, and I am glad that today we have signed an agreement for the construction of the Belgrade-Sarajevo highway,” Dodik said, News Agency Partia reports.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries started on 29 August 1992.

Due to strong bonds between the Bosnian region and the Ottoman Empire since the Ottoman conquest of the Balkans historically, a significant Turkish community, as well as ties linking Bosnia and Turkey, were established when Bosnia fell under Ottoman rule.
