The Franciscan Museum Humac near Ljubuški recorded around 4,700 visitors since the beginning of the year, while 7000 visitors were recorded during the entire year 2025. The Museum stated that the number of visitors increases every year. Along with guests from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, tourists from other European and overseas countries also arrive.

As Danijela Grbavac, curator of the Franciscan Museum Humac, told Fena, domestic visitors are most numerous, followed by guests from Croatia.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest among tourists from Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Canada, and other countries.

“Every year we record a growth in the number of visitors, which is a great indicator of how much domestic and increasingly foreign tourists appreciate and show interest in the history and the culture of the region they are visiting,” Grbavac said.

From the Paleolithic to Humac Tablet

The museum collection counts for approximately 300 artifacts, about half of which date back to antiquity. Visitors, depending on their interests, are mostly attracted to tools and weapons, statues, coins and stone monuments.

Among the oldest and most significant items is a necklace found in Badanj near Stolac, dating back to approximately 14, 000 – 10, 000 BC.

Valuable ancient artifacts include the stele of the cavalryman Alburius, which was discovered in Blinja near Teskera in the Ljubuški area, dated from the mid-1st century to 87 AD; a statue of the god Mercury, found in Gračine in Humac and dated between the 1st and 3rd centuries; and a scale weight in the shape of a high-ranking military officer from the 3rd century, found in an unknown site in Herzegovina.

The Humac Tablet holds a special place; it was found in Humac near Ljubuški and dated to the 11th or 12th century, which the Museum singles out as one of the most significant medieval written monuments from this region.

Around 80 Organized Groups Annually

About 80 organized groups visit the museum annually, the majority of which are students.

The curator, Danijela Grbavac, emphasized how they are especially pleased by the large number of school groups and the fact that a visit to the museum is included in field trips.

The ticket price is two BAM, or one euro, during the winter period, while during the summer period it is four BAM, or two euros. The price is the same for individual visitors and organized groups.

Exhibition Modernization to Follow

The Museum Humac plans to enhance the offer further.

The museum has announced the renovation and modernization of its exhibition, including bilingual content updates, as well as upgrades to its infrastructure.

This should improve the security and conditions for preserving valuable museum material, as well as the presentation of the collection to a contemporary museum audience, Fena writes.
