received_1175148265869461Fruit growers from Čapljina expect great harvest this year. Traditionally, they rely the most on apples. Season in the Neretva valley began exceptionally well because the sun followed the period of flowering and pollination.
Owner of an orchard in the settlement Nerezi Slavko Korda said that vegetation came earlier by two weeks this year, which is the only difference in comparison with previous very successful seasons.

Apples, pears, peaches, nectarines and cherries are planted on 20 hectares of his orchard. Dozens of workers are already spending the day in the orchard, which they will leave in the autumn after they prepare the orchard for winter.
Korda said that the harvest of apples and peaches will be measured in wagons. If everything goes as planned, one hectare planted with apples will yield around four wagons of fruit.

Apple is the fruit that the fruit growers in Čašljina count on the most. With this fruit, they can plan yield, placement and rates. All other fruits depend on weather conditions and situation on the market.
Fruit growers from Čapljina also follow trends. Thus, they planted the latest apple varieties, among which is the currently most popular apple variety in the world, the “pink lady”.

Apart from apples, peach is another standard fruit of this area. Fruit growers have been growing peaches since 1970, when the first varieties arrived here.
Head of Department of Genetics, Breeding and Biotechnology at the Faculty of Agriculture in Banja Luka Ljubomir Radoš said that a good season can be expected this year and that this is contributed to by good weather conditions at the time of flowering.
“Fertilization was excellent, which is very important for fruit,” Radoš said.
