Fully Equipped New State Prison waits Trustee, Investors ask for 11 Million BAM to be returned

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdic appeals at almost every session of the Council of Ministers to ministers to speed up all activities on possible open issues when it comes to appointments.

He also appealed to ministers to speed up the activities in their ministries and the departments about possible open appointments of board members and supervisory boards as well as working bodies.

This appeals most to the fact that it is still not certain when the built and fully equipped BH prison in East Ilidza will receive the first prisoners.

The reason is the lack of agreement on the name of the trustee.

The Council of Ministers will try to determine the date of the beginning of the work of the new BiH institution at the next session scheduled for February 26th, but to determine who will be in charge of the new prison.

The newly built prison has a total of ten objects, of which four are related to the accommodation capacities. The other six objects are auxiliary objects, while one of them is a hospital.

Meanwhile, former detention police officers, a total of 31 of them, are going through the training for prison officers and they will take their office in the prison in East Sarajevo immediately after it is put into operation.

The prison has the capacity of 350 places, 300 prisoners, and 50 detainees. Prison cells have the surface of 12 square meters.

“This project had immeasurable significance for our country. Primary for the Court of BiH,” said Ranko Debevec, the President of the Court of BiH.

“This is a modern and expensive object that will meet all the requirements for a decent serve of the prison sentence,” said the President of the Court of BiH.

“I think that we will be able to reduce costs due to the fact that the object is located near the Court of BiH,” said Debevec.

Every cell where will be located prisoners, will occupy a total area of about 12 m2. The beginning of the construction of the high security institution in which the convicts will be serving their prison sentence lasted for very long. The first works officially started on the 22nd of July, 2014. After a slow and painful beginning, masters, engineers and construction workers are working on the prison almost every day of the week in the last year.

The cells will not have grid as it is a common practice in prisons, but large windows with bulletproof glass. In the corner of each cell will be installed air-conditioning, and in a small bathroom will be shower, a small sink and toilet. Each floor of the object will have rooms for non-smokers, as well as special rooms for visitors. There will be also special cells for disabled persons and persons with developmental disabilities.

On one side of object will be placed the so called bedrooms with access to the garden. Prisoners will be able to use the Internet, library, sports facilities, and the construction of a large restaurant is currently taking place. The usage of cell phones will be banned. What is interesting is that there will be no workshops within the prison, where prisoners are usually engaged in creative work.

It is especially important to emphasize that the state prison will be secured according to the highest possible safety standards.

Since BiH has the problem of overcrowded detention facilities, the plan is to relieve the entity capacities.
