Officials from Qatar, Egypt and the United States, as well as Israel and Hamas, said a deal to end the Gaza conflict and release prisoners was closer than ever.

Negotiators were close to agreeing on the final details of the ceasefire after marathon talks in Qatar, with the leaders of the United States and Egypt vowing to remain in close contact over the deal in the coming hours.

More than eight hours of talks in Doha have fueled optimism. Officials from the mediators – Qatar, Egypt and the United States, as well as Israel and Hamas – said a deal to end the besieged enclave and release prisoners was closer than ever.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari earlier told a news conference that both sides had received the text and that negotiations on the final details were underway, Reuters reported.

But a senior Hamas official told Reuters late on Tuesday that the Palestinian group had not yet given its response as it was waiting for Israel to provide maps showing how its forces would withdraw from Gaza.

US President Joe Biden, whose administration is participating in the talks alongside Donald Trump’s envoy, said a deal was close.
