While summing up the achievements that have marked the organization of the Armed Forces of B&H (AF B&H), General Jelec recalls that the AF B&H is young institution, which is constantly and continuously growing and strengthening since its establishment, and that they developed into a modern and respectable military force recognizable in the region and the world in the past period.
“AF B&H, as unified armed forces of all nations in B&H, have gained the trust of the authorities, the population and a significant reputation in the international community in the last ten years by professional and responsible execution of legally prescribed missions and tasks both at home and abroad,” emphasized general Jelec.
“AF B&H confirmed high level of operational readiness by realization of numerous tasks in 2015, said Jelec, recalling that it was a year in which they successfully achieved the continuity of the reform process in AF B&H within the defense system of B&H and with the full support of NATO HQ and EUFOR in Sarajevo, and that the level of operational capability of AF B&H was preserved through the execution of tasks defined by the Law on Defense of B&H,” said the general.
Plan for individual and collective training of commands and units was realized in 2015, as well as military and joint exercises with EUFOR in B&H and international exercises abroad and increased level of interoperability and compatibility with of AF B&H with forces of the member states of NATO through the adoption of demanding NATO norms and standards.
According to him, operations of humanitarian demining in B&H was successfully continued in 2015, or implementation of mine action plan in which OSB&H are participating with more than 20 % of total capacities in the country.
“However, the thing that particularly marked last year for the Armed Forces of B&H and where our role was recognized on the internal level in B&H is providing assistance and support to civilian authorities and the population in various crisis and emergency situations. Armed Forces of B&H were engaged in performing various tasks on the territory of 33 municipalities throughout the country where we were invited and where it was needed the most. We rescued endangered citizens, properties and we offered great assistance to local communities. Armed Forces of B&H in 2015 achieved significant results in firefighting operations, medical evacuation by air, search and rescue operations, performance of engineering work in local communities as well as providing support for the realization of various cultural and sporting events throughout the country,” said Jelec.
