Schmidt is visiting BiH upon the order by the Chancellor Angela Merkel, who promised help from Germany for BiH farmers who might suffer certain damage with the adaptation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement.

During the visit of BiH Presidency members to Germany on June 30, Merkel promised to send the Minister Schmidt in order to trigger off the process of adoption of the adapted SAA. RS authorities blocked the adoption of the SAA, claiming that it is harmful for agriculture.

Schmidt will today meet with the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić, Minister of Economic Relations and Foreign Trade of BiH Mirko Šarović, Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry of FBiH Šemsudin Dedić, and with the BiH farmers who will convey information about the situation in this sector and possible negative consequences that the adaptation of SAA might bring.

It is planned that Christian Schmidt addresses the pubic with a joint statement with Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, Special Representative of the EU to BiH.
