At yesterday’s first emergency session held in Sarajevo, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) accepted the information from the Federal Administration of Civil Protection on the situation in the flooded areas in the FBiH. In this regard, the Government passed a conclusion instructing the Federal Administration of Civil Protection and the Federal Headquarters of Civil Protection to, at the request of the cantonal civil protection headquarters, engage federal specialized civil protection units for water rescue, and to make all available human and material-technical resources available, in order to provide assistance in the threatened area, as well as to report this to the Federal Government.

The Government made a decision to allocate intervention funds of a total of 500.000 BAM from the current reserve of the Budget of the FBiH, as an intervention measure to help four cities and municipalities in the Una-Sana Canton (USC). Of this amount, 150.000 BAM each was approved for Bihac, Bosanska Krupa, and Sanski Most, and 50.000 BAM for Kljuc. These funds were approved through the Federal Administration of Civil Protection.

As it was pointed out, after the water recedes, the Government will consider the situation in the threatened areas and, in accordance with the estimated damages, intervene in the direction of further assistance to the flooded areas in the FBiH. Moreover, the Government got acquainted with the information about the requests for allocation of financial aid to areas affected by floods, which were submitted by the City of Bosanska Krupa, the Municipality of Sanski Most, the Municipality of Kljuc, and the City of Bihac.

Furthermore, by amending the Decision on the appointment of the commander, chief, and members of the Federal Civil Protection Staff, the Government appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Minister of Finance Toni Kraljevic as the Staff Commander at yesterday’s session.

Today, the city of Sarajevo will pay 20,000 BAM each to help the residents of Bihać and Bosanska Krupa.

“We are closely following the news and pictures coming from the flooded areas of our Krajina in recent days. I am in contact with my fellow mayors, Elvedin Sedić and Armin Halitović. There will be no lack of solidarity from the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina in these moments,” said the mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić.

The decision was made at an urgent electronic session of the City Council Collegium, and additional ways of assistance will be considered at the next session.
