In the following days and for the weekend, the danger of avalanches in the mountains higher than 1,000 meters above sea level is under the “red alert”, and therefore going skiing or hiking should be omitted, said the head of the Federal Service for Rescue from Height and president of the Sarajevo “Klub spasavalaca 2000” Pašaga Grbo.
“The situation on the mountains due to the large amount of snow that exceeds three meters in height and because of the expected growth of temperature is such that the avalanches have already started and we have already registered significant damage to forests on Maglić, Treskavica and Visočica,” explains Grbo and adds that the warning about the danger of avalanches has been issued in the region as well.
He lists Maglić, Zelengora, Treskavica, Visočica, Prenj, Čvrsnica and Bjelašnica as particularly hazardous areas.
In addition to these mountain ranges, says Grbo, in the upcoming days and for the weekend it is not advisable to hike or ski anywhere on the mountains with a large amount of snow which is heavy and cannot stick to the surface.
