Guardians of the Gastronomic Tradition of Posavina

The accelerated pace of life and the lack of time have greatly changed our gastronomic habits. More and more fast food and ready-made food are consumed, despite this, traditional cuisine in Posavina is more and more appreciated and represented. The women of Posavina cherish their gastronomic tradition in particular, and they jealously guard the recipes that their grandmothers and great-grandmothers left them from oblivion and pass them on to the younger generations.

Food prepared according to old local original recipes is the main specialty of all important events in Posavina. Among them, at the very top are the popular Posavina listarići, whose taste and smell are tempting and irresistible to everyone. Even today, they are prepared according to the original recipe.

“I have my own dough that Mandica and I make. It’s the same as before – eggs, yogurt, milk, flour, salt – nothing is new, but everything is the same as before”, says Ružica Vukić from Tolisa.

Today, this food has become a true delicacy and tells how life used to be. Our grandmothers and great-grandmothers always managed to bring a lot of taste and pleasure with a few ingredients.

“I inherited it from my grandmother and I thank her for teaching me and I will pass it on to my children as well. Young people are interested, I have a daughter who is interested, so they will accept mine,” adds Vukić.

The guardians of Posavina’s gastronomic customs and traditions are also members of the Association Marija from Domaljevac, which always delights with sweet delicacies.

“Tonight we offer grandma’s cakes and our homemade fritters, Posavina fritters,” points out Blaženka Lucić, a member of the women’s association Marija Domaljevac.

Association Marija was founded in 2012 with the aim of preserving and nurturing the rich tradition and cultural heritage of the Posavina region. Along with the proven recipe, they always add the most important ingredient.

“A lot of love, a lot for our people, and then it won’t be difficult,” says Lucić.

Thanks to these hard-working and skilled cooks, traditional Posavina cuisine will continue to delight even the most refined palates, especially tourists who come to the Posavina Canton, Federalna writes.
