Former US President Donald Trump was led off stage after shots rang out as he addressed a crowd at a rally in Pennsylvania.
Secret Service agents rushed to the former president and quickly removed him from the stage at Butler.
Trump could be seen ducking for cover behind the lectern. The published photos show a small amount of blood on Trump’s ear. It is not known if it was from the fall or from the shooting.
Trump stood up and held his fist in the air with what appeared to be blood running down his face. Several Secret Service agents surrounded him as he raised his hand and appeared to shout “fight” to his cheering supporters.
Reporters at the event were told that the gathering place at the Butler Farm Show had become an “active crime scene,” CNN reported.
One of the network’s reporters said they heard gunshots and it sounded like they came “from afar.” It was not immediately clear where the sounds originated.
The event is staffed by US Secret Service personnel, as well as local Pennsylvania law enforcement.
The former president was quickly driven away from the scene in an armored vehicle. Trump was speaking at his final rally before the Republican National Convention when the shooting occurred.
Trump spokesman Steven Cheung told me in a statement that the former president is being evaluated at a local medical facility.
“President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their swift action during this heinous act. He is doing well and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow,” he said, Klix.ba writes.
