Prof. dr. Zlatko Hadzidedic, director of the Center for Nationalism Studies, was interviewed.
He says it is obvious that some pressure has been put on deputies from Republika Srpska (RS) in the House of Representatives.
Now we can only guess from which side this pressure came. Probably from those who have given them the green light to do what they did. I think that the mood within the European Union (EU) has changed in part, which has so far given carte blanche to RS so they could continue doing what they want (more precisely to their leadership) and she has also advocated the idea of dividing BiH from the Lisbon Conference to the present day, and now I will not say that they have given up on that idea, I will just say that they would probably not be pleasant for them that any further tensions get drawn, since a declaration of secession of the RS would create even more problems in the given atmosphere. Given that everything is now revolving around Ukraine, support to Ukraine, and above all pressure on Russia, there is a fear that the RS could that way if it would take some further steps, would create a somewhat easier situation for Russia, and in that name, again, it is not for us, not for principles, not for the sovereignty, territorial integrity of BiH, but purely opportunistic so as not to make Russia’s position easier, certain EU members probably put pressure on RS to stop doing the same thing they had previously been approved to do. “
According to him, there is no real chance that Russia will destabilize the situation in BiH.
Hadzidedic says about BiH’s accelerated accession to the EU: “I honestly think that none of this could have happened. I don’t see why they would want us in their ranks now if they didn’t even want us to exist.”
Dodik will say anything that someone whispers to him
“The basic thing is to realize he has never done anything on his own. He has neither created problems and threatened secession, nor is he now conciliatory on his own. He always does what is whispered to him from that same EU.”
He explained that the United States (U.S.) and EU policies towards BiH were drastically different.
“However, with the appearance of Mr. Palmer, it is really difficult for me to say what it is about. He has very strong private ties with the Serbian leadership, with people close to Dodik, etc. His private engagement is clear to me, but it is not very clear why the U.S. agrees to be represented here by a Palmer, and then by Escobar, who put Dodik in power, invented him and put him in power, and it is really interesting that these two represent the U.S. I have no explanation for that turn in U.S. politics. It is not seen in most of the other places. However, the presence of these two bureaucrats testifies to the fact that there has been a major turnaround in U.S. policy. “
BiH has already experienced the fate of Ukraine once.
He believes that Serbia will remain a favorite of the new German government.
Hadzidedic told that Vucic can hardly lose the elections in Serbia.
“He has too much control over the whole system. He has gotten quite out of the pressure on Ukraine if there ever was one. I would not swear that he was pressured, precisely because Serbia is a favorite.”
The new order will only be harsher than the previous one
“It’s hard to say whether a new international order is coming or chaos. This for now looks more like the chaos that can last a very long time. No order necessarily has to emerge very quickly. I think generally what is going to happen in the world is the growth of authoritarian tendencies and authoritarian nationalism. I think the new order will only be harsher than the previous one. “
